Laboratory Technician

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Laboratory Technician to join our laboratory team at National Hospital Abuja. The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years of experience in clinical or hospital laboratory operations and be proficient in laboratory procedures, specimen handling, and diagnostic testing.

The Laboratory Technician will assist medical laboratory scientists in performing routine and specialized tests, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. This role is essential in supporting accurate diagnostics and effective patient care.

Key Responsibilities

Collect, label, and process biological specimens such as blood, urine, stool, and tissue samples.

Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests, including hematology, microbiology, serology, and biochemistry.

Prepare reagents and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment to ensure proper functioning.

Maintain accurate laboratory records, logs, and test reports.

Monitor laboratory supplies, reagents, and equipment, ensuring adequate inventory levels.

Adhere strictly to laboratory safety protocols, infection control procedures, and quality assurance standards.

Assist in troubleshooting laboratory equipment and resolving technical issues.

Collaborate with clinicians, laboratory scientists, and hospital staff to deliver timely and accurate diagnostic results.

Participate in quality control programs, internal audits, and external laboratory assessments.

Support research projects or specialized diagnostic tasks as required.

Required Qualifications

Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or related life science discipline.

3–5 years of professional experience in hospital or clinical laboratories.

Knowledge of laboratory instruments, laboratory information systems (LIS), and diagnostic equipment.

Understanding of quality assurance, quality control, and laboratory safety procedures.

Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to work effectively under pressure.
