Job Summary
The Legal Officer / Recovery Manager will oversee the organization’s legal affairs while leading debt recovery initiatives involving delinquent and non-performing loan portfolios. The role ensures compliance with legal frameworks, internal credit procedures, and financial regulations while minimizing institutional credit losses.
The position also involves litigation management, contract drafting, legal due diligence, loan enforcement, collateral recovery, and providing strategic legal advice to business operations and management.
Key Job Responsibilities (JD)
Loan Recovery & Credit Risk Management
The selected candidate will:
- Develop and implement effective recovery strategies for overdue accounts and bad debt portfolios.
- Manage delinquent and non-performing loan portfolios to improve recovery rates.
- Monitor debt repayment activities and negotiate settlement arrangements.
- Coordinate restructuring plans and repayment schedules.
- Work closely with credit and risk departments to reduce non-performing loan (NPL) ratios.
- Initiate collateral realization and loan enforcement actions where necessary.
- Prepare recovery performance reports and portfolio updates.
Legal Compliance & Regulatory Management
Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring all recovery activities comply with Nigerian legal frameworks and company policies.
- Managing court filings, litigation procedures, and legal representation coordination.
- Monitoring compliance with Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) regulations and statutory obligations.
