Job Overview
The Insurance Underwriter will be responsible for evaluating risk, pricing policies, and ensuring that the underwriting guidelines are adhered to while maintaining profitability and compliance. Key Responsibilities
- Assess and analyze insurance applications, including financial statements, credit reports, and risk factors, to determine eligibility and appropriate coverage.
- Develop and recommend pricing structures that balance competitiveness with profitability, adhering to AXA Mansard’s underwriting guidelines.
- Collaborate with sales agents and brokers to gather necessary information, clarify policy terms, and provide expert advice on risk mitigation.
- Prepare detailed underwriting reports and documentation for senior management review and regulatory compliance.
- Monitor and manage the performance of underwritten policies, identifying trends and recommending adjustments to pricing or terms as needed.
- Stay updated on industry regulations, market trends, and emerging risks to ensure the underwriting portfolio remains robust and compliant.
- Participate in cross‑functional meetings with actuarial, claims, and product development teams to enhance product offerings.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical and quantitative abilities with proficiency in risk assessment tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with clients and internal stakeholders.
- Proficiency in underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
- Negotiation skills to balance client needs with company risk appetite.
- Knowledge of Nigerian insurance regulations and market dynamics.
Education
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) qualifications or equivalent are advantageous but not mandatory.
Experience
Applicants should have 3 to 5 years of experience in insurance underwriting, preferably within the Nigerian market. Experience in commercial lines, property, or motor insurance is highly valued.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 4,500,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and incentives are also part of the total rewards structure.
