Job Overview
The Telecom Network Security Engineer will design, implement, and manage security solutions for MTN’s extensive mobile and broadband infrastructure. This position ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of network assets, protecting against evolving cyber threats. The role involves close collaboration with network operations, IT, and compliance teams to develop robust security architectures, conduct risk assessments, and respond to incidents. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and enforce network security policies, standards, and procedures aligned with industry best practices.
- Design, configure, and maintain firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, VPNs, and other security appliances.
- Conduct regular vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and security audits of telecom infrastructure.
- Monitor network traffic for anomalies using SIEM tools and respond to security incidents promptly.
- Collaborate with network engineers to integrate security controls into new deployments and upgrades.
- Provide technical guidance and training to cross‑functional teams on security awareness.
- Maintain up‑to‑date documentation of security architectures, incident reports, and compliance evidence.
- Stay informed about emerging threats, zero‑day exploits, and regulatory changes affecting the telecommunications sector.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, MPLS, LTE, 5G) and telecom equipment.
- Hands‑on experience with firewalls (Cisco ASA, Palo Alto), IDS/IPS, and VPN technologies.
- Proficiency in security monitoring tools (Splunk, QRadar) and incident response processes.
- Understanding of cryptographic standards, PKI, and secure authentication mechanisms.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as NITDA, GDPR, and ISO 27001.
- Excellent problem‑solving abilities and analytical thinking.
- Effective communication skills for stakeholder engagement and reporting.
Education
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as CISSP, CCNP Security, or CEH are highly desirable and demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning.
Experience
Applicants must have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience securing large‑scale telecom networks, preferably within a carrier environment. Experience with mobile core networks, backhaul, and data center security will be considered an advantage.
