Job Overview
The Network Optimization Engineer will play a pivotal role in designing, analyzing and enhancing the performance of Airtel’s radio access network (RAN) and core transport infrastructure in the Benin City region. This role involves close collaboration with RF planning teams, drive‑test engineers, and senior network architects to identify bottlenecks, implement optimization techniques, and support the rollout of new technologies. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive drive‑test and performance analysis across 4G/5G sites in Benin City and surrounding areas.
- Develop and implement optimization plans to improve coverage, capacity and quality of service.
- Collaborate with RF planning, core network and IT teams to align optimization activities with network expansion projects.
- Utilize advanced analytics tools (e.g., Atoll, TEMS, NetAct) to generate actionable insights and KPI dashboards.
- Monitor network health in real‑time, troubleshoot performance issues, and propose corrective actions.
- Prepare detailed technical reports and present findings to senior management and cross‑functional stakeholders.
- Support the integration and testing of new radio technologies, including 5G NR and Massive MIMO.
- Participate in vendor management activities, ensuring compliance with service level agreements.
- Contribute to the development of best‑practice optimization methodologies and knowledge‑sharing sessions.
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of LTE/5G radio principles, network architecture and performance metrics.
- Proficiency with network optimization tools such as Atoll, TEMS Investigation, and OSS platforms.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a data‑driven mindset.
- Effective communication skills for reporting complex technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, Bash) for automation is a plus.
- Project management experience, including planning, execution and stakeholder coordination.
Education
A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Cisco CCNP, Nokia NPO or equivalent are advantageous.
Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of hands‑on experience in telecom network optimization, preferably within a mobile operator environment. Experience with both 4G LTE and early 5G deployments is highly desirable.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from 3,000,000 to 5,500,000 SSP per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, and a pension scheme.
