Job Overview
The Network Security Engineer will play a pivotal role in safeguarding 9mobile’s core network assets, including radio access networks, transport layers, and data centers. Reporting to the Head of Network Security, the incumbent will design, implement, and manage security controls, conduct risk assessments, and respond to incidents. Key Responsibilities
- Design, configure, and maintain firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and VPN solutions across the telecom backbone.
- Conduct regular vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and security audits of network components.
- Develop and enforce security policies, standards, and procedures in line with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor security events using SIEM tools, analyze alerts, and coordinate incident response activities.
- Collaborate with network engineering, operations, and IT teams to integrate security controls into new deployments and upgrades.
- Provide technical guidance and training to junior engineers and operational staff on security best practices.
- Prepare detailed reports and dashboards for senior management, highlighting risk posture and remediation status.
- Stay updated on emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and telecom‑specific security trends to proactively enhance defenses.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, MPLS, BGP, OSPF) and telecom architectures.
- Hands‑on experience with security devices such as Palo Alto, Cisco ASA, Fortinet, and Juniper firewalls.
- Proficiency in SIEM platforms (e.g., Splunk, QRadar) and incident response workflows.
- Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, Bash) for automation of security tasks.
- Understanding of regulatory frameworks such as NITDA, GDPR, and ISO 27001.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple security projects simultaneously.
Education
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as CISSP, CCNP Security, or GSEC are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.
Experience
The ideal candidate will have 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience in network security within a telecommunications or large‑scale ISP environment. Demonstrated experience in designing and managing security solutions for carrier‑grade networks is essential.
