Job Overview
The Aviation Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance, inspection and repair of Dana Air’s aircraft fleet stationed at Enugu International Airport. Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the incumbent will ensure that all aircraft are maintained in compliance with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) regulations, manufacturer specifications and company safety policies. This position plays a pivotal role in minimizing aircraft downtime, optimizing maintenance schedules and supporting the airline’s commitment to on‑time performance. The role also involves mentoring junior technicians, coordinating with external MRO providers and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety and cost efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on ATR and Boeing aircraft, including airframe, powerplant, avionics and systems.
- Lead the execution of A‑checks, C‑checks and D‑checks, ensuring all tasks are completed within approved timelines.
- Interpret technical manuals, service bulletins and airworthiness directives to determine applicable maintenance actions.
- Perform detailed inspections, troubleshoot faults, and implement corrective actions in accordance with regulatory standards.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, logbooks and compliance documentation for each aircraft.
- Coordinate with the supply chain team to ensure timely availability of spare parts and consumables.
- Supervise and mentor a team of 8‑10 junior technicians, providing guidance on best practices and safety procedures.
- Collaborate with the Quality Assurance department to conduct internal audits and support external regulatory inspections.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction and reliability enhancements, and present recommendations to senior management.
- Participate in emergency response and incident investigations, providing technical expertise and root‑cause analysis.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of aircraft structures, systems and powerplants, particularly ATR 42/72 and Boeing 737 families.
- Proficiency in using maintenance management software (e.g., AMOS, RAMCO) and technical documentation tools.
- Excellent problem‑solving abilities and a methodical approach to troubleshooting.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with pilots, ground staff, regulators and external vendors.
- Leadership qualities with experience in supervising technical teams.
- Commitment to safety culture and adherence to regulatory compliance.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) license issued by the NCAA, and additional manufacturer‑specific training (ATR, Boeing) are highly desirable.
Experience
Candidates must have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in aircraft maintenance, with at least two years in a supervisory or lead engineer role. Experience working with mixed fleets and familiarity with Nigerian aviation regulatory frameworks will be considered a strong advantage.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from ₦2,500,000 to ₦3,500,000 per month, commensurate with experience, qualifications and performance. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, pension contributions and other statutory benefits.
