Job Overview
The 5G Network Planning Engineer will lead the design, optimization, and implementation of 5G radio access networks (RAN) for Globacom’s Umuahia region and surrounding areas. Reporting to the Senior Network Architecture Manager, the engineer will collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including RF, core network, and product development, to deliver high‑performance, reliable, and cost‑effective 5G solutions. Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed 5G network plans, including site selection, frequency allocation, and capacity forecasting.
- Perform RF propagation analysis, drive‑test measurements, and coverage simulations using industry‑standard tools.
- Collaborate with civil engineering and construction teams to ensure timely deployment of base stations and small cells.
- Optimize network parameters post‑deployment to meet performance KPIs such as throughput, latency, and reliability.
- Coordinate with regulatory bodies to secure spectrum licenses and ensure compliance with Nigerian telecommunications regulations.
- Prepare technical reports, cost‑benefit analyses, and project documentation for senior management.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on 5G standards and best practices.
- Stay updated on global 5G trends, standards, and emerging technologies to recommend innovative solutions.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in 5G NR (New Radio) standards, LTE, and GSM technologies.
- Hands‑on experience with network planning tools such as Atoll, Planet, or iBwave.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex RF data and translate it into actionable plans.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Project management experience, including budgeting and timeline control.
- Familiarity with Nigerian spectrum allocation policies and NITEL/NGN regulatory frameworks.
Education
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as Certified Wireless Network Professional (CWNP) or 5G certification from recognized bodies are highly desirable.
Experience
Applicants must have at least five years of professional experience in telecom network planning, with a minimum of two years dedicated to 5G network design and deployment. Experience working with major telecom operators or equipment vendors in Nigeria or other African markets will be considered an advantage.
Salary
