Job Overview

The Insurance Claims Manager will lead the Calabar claims team, overseeing the end‑to‑end processing of insurance claims, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction. This position reports to the Regional Claims Director and collaborates closely with underwriting, legal, and finance departments to resolve complex claims efficiently. Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor a team of claims adjusters, ensuring timely and accurate claim assessments.
  • Develop and enforce claims handling policies that align with Nigerian insurance regulations and Leadway’s internal standards.
  • Conduct complex claim investigations, negotiate settlements, and coordinate with legal counsel when necessary.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as claim turnaround time, loss ratios, and customer satisfaction scores.
  • Implement process improvements and automation tools to enhance efficiency and reduce operational costs.
  • Collaborate with underwriting to identify emerging risk trends and provide feedback for product development.
  • Prepare detailed reports for senior management and regulatory bodies, highlighting claim trends and financial impacts.
  • Ensure proper documentation and archiving of all claim files in compliance with data protection laws.
  • Lead training sessions for the claims team on new policies, systems, and industry best practices.

Required Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a keen eye for detail.
  • Excellent negotiation and conflict‑resolution skills.
  • Proficiency in claims management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with policyholders, brokers, and internal stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of Nigerian insurance law, NAICOM guidelines, and industry standards.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Law, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) qualifications or Certified Insurance Claims Professional (CICP) are highly desirable.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of five years of progressive experience in insurance claims handling, with at least two years in a supervisory or managerial capacity. Experience in both life and general insurance lines is advantageous.

Salary
