Job Overview
We seek an experienced Regenerative Agriculture Specialist for our Sustainability & Agronomy Department in Benin City. This pivotal role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring regenerative agricultural practices across our plantations. The successful candidate will lead initiatives to improve soil health, enhance biodiversity, optimize water usage, and reduce our carbon footprint, aligning with long-term sustainability goals. The Specialist will collaborate with farm managers, agronomists, and research teams to integrate cutting-edge techniques for resilient, productive farming systems. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement regenerative agriculture strategies for oil palm.
- Conduct soil health assessments, analyze data, and recommend improvements in soil organic matter and nutrient cycling.
- Design and oversee trials for cover cropping, intercropping, composting, and other regenerative practices.
- Provide technical guidance and training to farm staff on regenerative agriculture principles.
- Monitor and evaluate environmental and economic impacts of regenerative practices.
- Collaborate with research institutions on advancements.
- Prepare detailed reports on project progress and recommendations.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and sustainability certifications.
- Contribute to company sustainability reporting.
Required Skills
- In-depth knowledge of regenerative agriculture principles and practices in tropical perennial crops.
- Strong understanding of soil science, agroecology, and ecosystem services.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Project management skills.
- Familiarity with GIS and remote sensing technologies is a plus.
- Commitment to environmental sustainability.
Education
A Master’s Degree in Agronomy, Soil Science, Agroecology, Environmental Science, or a closely related field is required. A Ph.D. is an added advantage.
Experience
Minimum 5-8 years progressive experience in agricultural research, farm management, or sustainability roles, with a proven track record in implementing regenerative or sustainable farming practices, preferably in perennial crops. Experience in tropical agricultural systems highly desirable.
