Job Overview
The Marine Environmental Compliance Officer will lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of environmental policies for Maersk’s port and vessel operations in Nigeria. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain comprehensive marine environmental compliance programs aligned with Nigerian Maritime Authority (NMA) standards and IMO regulations.
- Conduct regular audits of vessel and port activities, identifying gaps and recommending corrective actions.
- Prepare and submit detailed compliance reports to regulatory bodies, ensuring timely and accurate documentation.
- Lead environmental impact assessments for new routes, terminal expansions, and cargo handling procedures.
- Coordinate training sessions for crew and shore staff on pollution prevention, waste management, and emergency response.
- Monitor and analyze water quality data, emissions, and ballast water treatment effectiveness.
- Serve as the primary liaison with NGOs, local communities, and government agencies on marine conservation initiatives.
- Support the integration of green technologies such as low‑sulphur fuels and energy‑efficient vessel designs.
Required Skills
- In‑depth knowledge of maritime environmental regulations (MARPOL, IMO 2020, NMA guidelines).
- Strong analytical abilities to interpret environmental data and generate actionable insights.
- Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement and report writing.
- Project management experience, including planning, budgeting, and timeline control.
- Proficiency with environmental management software and GIS tools.
- Ability to work independently and lead cross‑functional teams.
Education
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Marine Biology, Oceanography, or a closely related field is required. Advanced certifications such as Certified Marine Environmental Professional (CMEP) or equivalent are highly desirable.

Salary
