Job Overview
The International Trade Compliance Manager will lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of trade compliance programs that align with Nigerian regulations and international standards. This role is critical for ensuring that all import and export activities adhere to customs laws, sanctions, and trade agreements, thereby protecting the company from legal and financial risks. The manager will collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including operations, legal, finance, and sales, to embed compliance into daily business processes. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and update the company’s trade compliance policies and procedures in line with Nigerian customs regulations and international trade agreements.
- Conduct regular internal audits and risk assessments to identify potential compliance gaps and implement corrective actions.
- Provide expert guidance to operational teams on classification, valuation, origin determination, and licensing requirements for all shipments.
- Monitor changes in trade legislation, sanctions, and embargoes, and communicate impacts to relevant stakeholders.
- Coordinate with customs authorities and external consultants to resolve compliance issues and facilitate smooth clearance processes.
- Lead training programs for staff on trade compliance best practices and emerging regulatory trends.
- Prepare and submit required documentation for import/export filings, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Maintain comprehensive records of compliance activities and generate reports for senior management.
Required Skills
- In‑depth knowledge of Nigerian customs law, ECOWAS trade regulations, and international sanctions regimes.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills for delivering training and interfacing with government agencies.
- Proficiency in trade compliance software and ERP systems.
- Ability to work collaboratively across diverse functional teams.
- Project management experience and ability to handle multiple priorities.
Education
A bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Business Administration, Law, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) or Certified Export Specialist (CES) are highly desirable.
Experience
Applicants should have 5‑7 years of progressive experience in trade compliance, customs brokerage, or related roles within a multinational logistics or manufacturing environment. Prior experience in the Nigerian market is essential.
Salary
The role offers a competitive salary ranging from ₦3,000,000 to ₦5,000,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and other incentives are also part of the compensation package.
