Job Overview
The Payments Risk and Compliance Manager will lead the design, implementation, and monitoring of risk mitigation strategies for Interswitch’s payment products and services. Reporting directly to the Head of Risk & Compliance, the incumbent will ensure that all payment operations adhere to regulatory standards, internal policies, and industry best practices. This position plays a critical role in safeguarding the company’s reputation, protecting customer data, and maintaining the trust of partners and regulators. The manager will collaborate closely with product, engineering, legal, and operations teams to embed risk controls throughout the product lifecycle, while also staying abreast of evolving regulatory landscapes across Nigeria and the broader African market.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive payments risk framework aligned with Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) guidelines and international standards such as PCI DSS.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, fraud trend analyses, and scenario testing for all payment channels, including card, mobile, and online platforms.
- Lead the investigation and remediation of suspected fraud incidents, coordinating with law enforcement and regulatory bodies as needed.
- Design and implement compliance monitoring programs, ensuring timely reporting of suspicious activities and adherence to AML/CFT obligations.
- Provide risk‑aware guidance to product development teams, embedding controls early in the design phase.
- Prepare and present risk dashboards and compliance reports to senior leadership and the board of directors.
- Stay updated on regulatory changes, emerging threats, and industry best practices, translating insights into actionable policies.
- Train cross‑functional teams on risk awareness, compliance requirements, and incident response procedures.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical abilities with a proven track record in payments fraud detection and risk modeling.
- In‑depth knowledge of Nigerian payment regulations, AML/CFT frameworks, and global compliance standards.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of translating complex risk concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Proficiency in data analytics tools (SQL, Python, Tableau) and risk management platforms.
- Leadership experience with the ability to influence and drive change across multidisciplinary teams.
- High ethical standards and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
Education
A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Certified Anti‑Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) are highly desirable.
Experience
Applicants should possess a minimum of five to seven years of relevant experience in payments risk management, compliance, financial crime prevention, or a similar field within the FinTech or banking sector. Experience working with regulatory bodies in Nigeria and a solid understanding of the African payments ecosystem will be considered a strong advantage.
Salary
The role offers a competitive annual salary ranging from ₦2,500,000 to ₦3,500,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and equity participation may also be part of the total compensation package.
