Job Description

INTERSOS is seeking a highly organized and experienced Base Logistics Officer to manage and oversee all logistics, supply chain, and IT/communications activities within its mission base in Nigeria. This role is essential to ensuring that all materials, infrastructure, and operational systems are functioning efficiently to support humanitarian programs.

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising logistics operations, including procurement, warehouse management, transportation, asset tracking, and facility maintenance. This position requires strong operational leadership, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in complex and fast-paced environments.

Job Purpose

To plan, implement, and monitor logistics and supply operations at the base level, ensuring smooth execution of project activities in line with INTERSOS standards, protocols, and donor requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Logistics Information Management

Ensure accurate and timely input of logistics data into INTERSOS systems such as IMP and IMS
Provide training and support to staff on logistics software and systems implementation

Supply Chain Management and Procurement

Plan, coordinate, and supervise procurement and supply activities
Conduct local purchases in compliance with organizational and donor regulations
Follow up on supplier payments and ensure all supporting documentation is complete
Maintain supplier relationships and update supplier databases
Conduct market assessments and manage pre-qualified supplier lists
Ensure proper documentation and archiving of procurement processes
Support preparation of monthly logistics reports

Stock Management

Oversee warehouse operations and ensure proper stock management procedures
Manage physical and digital inventory records, ensuring accuracy and compliance
Monitor stock levels to prevent shortages, losses, or overstocking
Ensure proper storage conditions, including cold chain management where required
Supervise warehouse staff and organize daily operations

Facilities and Communications Management

Ensure proper setup and maintenance of office spaces and guesthouse facilities
Maintain IT and communication infrastructure to support operations
Train staff on the use of communication tools such as radios and satellite systems

Asset Management

Support procurement, tracking, and maintenance of assets and equipment
Ensure all assets are properly tagged, registered, and documented
Conduct regular asset verification and reporting

Transportation Management

Manage fleet operations, ensuring vehicles are maintained, insured, and compliant
Monitor fuel usage, vehicle logs, and maintenance schedules
Plan and coordinate vehicle movements and ensure adherence to safety protocols
Oversee generator usage and fuel monitoring

Human Resources Management

Supervise logistics staff and casual laborers
Assign tasks, monitor performance, and support team development

Applied Security

Support implementation of security policies related to logistics and operations
Monitor compliance with safety and security procedures
Assist in developing evacuation and contingency plans
Report security concerns to management and contribute to risk mitigation

Requirements

Tertiary education in logistics, supply chain management, or a related technical field
Professional certifications in logistics or supply chain are an advantage
Minimum 3 years of experience in logistics and supply chain management
Experience working with NGOs or humanitarian organizations is preferred
Familiarity with logistics systems and software tools
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and internet applications
Knowledge of communication equipment such as radios
Strong organizational and planning skills
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
High level of integrity and adherence to procurement ethics
Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills

Education

Tertiary education in Logistics, Supply Chain, Engineering, or related field

Experience

At least 3 years of relevant experience in logistics and supply chain operations
Experience in humanitarian or NGO environments is desirable
