Job Overview
The Robotics Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying robotic solutions that enhance productivity, quality, and safety across ABB’s manufacturing sites and client projects in Nigeria. This role involves close collaboration with cross‑functional teams, including mechanical designers, software developers, and project managers, to deliver end‑to‑end automation systems. Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop robotic cell layouts, end‑effectors, and control architectures for manufacturing applications.
- Integrate robotic systems with PLCs, vision systems, and IoT platforms to achieve seamless automation.
- Conduct simulation, testing, and validation of robotic solutions to ensure compliance with safety and performance standards.
- Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers to optimize system integration and troubleshoot technical issues.
- Prepare detailed technical documentation, including schematics, bill of materials, and user manuals.
- Provide on‑site support during installation, commissioning, and post‑implementation phases.
- Stay updated on emerging robotics technologies and propose innovative improvements to existing processes.
- Assist the sales and project management teams with technical proposals and cost estimations.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in robotics programming languages such as RAPID, KRL, or ROS.
- Strong knowledge of kinematics, dynamics, and control theory.
- Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA) and simulation tools (MATLAB/Simulink, RobotStudio).
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus).
- Excellent problem‑solving abilities and analytical mindset.
- Effective communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
- Commitment to safety standards and quality assurance.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates with a Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., ABB Certified Robotics Engineer) will be given preference.
Experience
Applicants should have 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience in robotics system design, integration, or automation within a manufacturing environment. Experience with ABB’s own robot families (e.g., IRB, YuMi) is highly advantageous.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from N2,500,000 to N3,500,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and allowances may be included.
