Job Description

INTERSOS is seeking an experienced and highly responsible Security Manager to lead and oversee all security operations within its mission in Nigeria. This role is critical in ensuring the safety and security of staff, assets, and operations in complex and high-risk environments.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing security policies, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring that all security protocols are effectively applied across field locations. This position requires strong leadership, crisis management capability, and a deep understanding of humanitarian security practices.

Job Purpose

To develop, implement, and monitor security policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure that all mission activities are conducted in a safe and secure environment while maintaining compliance with humanitarian standards.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and oversee the implementation of security policies, procedures, and protocols
Plan, coordinate, and monitor all security-related activities across the mission
Manage and control security budgets, ensuring cost-effective operations
Recruit, train, and supervise security personnel and focal points across field locations
Ensure all staff are trained and aware of security procedures and tools
Conduct context analysis, risk assessments, and update security and safety plans accordingly
Establish and maintain strong networks with other NGO security managers and relevant stakeholders
Support incident and crisis management as the focal point during emergencies
Prepare detailed reports on security situations, incidents, and risk mitigation strategies
Analyze security data and recommend improvements, including the use of new technologies

Requirements

University degree in Social Sciences, Psychology, Social Work, Human Rights, International Humanitarian Law, or a related field
Master’s degree in Human Rights, International Humanitarian Law, or related fields is an advantage
Minimum 3 years of experience as a Security Manager in a humanitarian or recovery context
Strong knowledge of humanitarian safety practices, risk management, and security protocols
Proven experience in humanitarian negotiation and access management in complex environments
Experience in emergency response planning and incident reporting
Ability to operate effectively in high-pressure and challenging environments
