Job Overview

We are seeking a passionate and strategic Sustainable Ecotourism Planner to design and implement eco-friendly tourism projects that promote conservation while supporting local economies. This role will be based in Kaduna and will contribute to BirdLife International’s mission of creating sustainable livelihoods through nature-based tourism. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage ecotourism strategies that align with conservation goals and community needs.
  • Collaborate with local stakeholders to identify and protect ecologically sensitive areas.
  • Design educational programs and visitor experiences that highlight biodiversity conservation.
  • Monitor and evaluate the environmental and socio-economic impact of tourism initiatives.
  • Secure funding through grants and partnerships to support sustainable tourism projects.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in ecotourism planning or sustainable development projects.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental conservation principles and practices.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Proficiency in GIS mapping and data analysis tools.
  • Ability to work in remote field conditions and manage multiple priorities.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Tourism Management, or related field.
  • Advanced degree (Master’s) in Conservation or Sustainable Development is an advantage.

Experience

  • 3-5 years of professional experience in ecotourism, conservation, or sustainable development.
  • Experience working with local communities and government agencies is preferred.

Salary

250,000 – 350,000 SSP per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
