Job Overview
We are seeking a passionate and strategic Sustainable Ecotourism Planner to design and implement eco-friendly tourism projects that promote conservation while supporting local economies. This role will be based in Kaduna and will contribute to BirdLife International’s mission of creating sustainable livelihoods through nature-based tourism. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage ecotourism strategies that align with conservation goals and community needs.
- Collaborate with local stakeholders to identify and protect ecologically sensitive areas.
- Design educational programs and visitor experiences that highlight biodiversity conservation.
- Monitor and evaluate the environmental and socio-economic impact of tourism initiatives.
- Secure funding through grants and partnerships to support sustainable tourism projects.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in ecotourism planning or sustainable development projects.
- Strong knowledge of environmental conservation principles and practices.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and cross-cultural communication skills.
- Proficiency in GIS mapping and data analysis tools.
- Ability to work in remote field conditions and manage multiple priorities.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Tourism Management, or related field.
- Advanced degree (Master’s) in Conservation or Sustainable Development is an advantage.
Experience
- 3-5 years of professional experience in ecotourism, conservation, or sustainable development.
- Experience working with local communities and government agencies is preferred.
Salary
250,000 – 350,000 SSP per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
