Job Overview
This role involves designing and implementing waste management strategies tailored to Jos’s urban challenges. The consultant will work directly with communities to develop waste-to-resource systems, conduct environmental impact assessments, and train local teams in sustainable practices. The position emphasizes cross-sector collaboration to address pollution, improve public health, and create economic opportunities from waste streams.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive waste management plans for urban and peri-urban areas
- Conduct community workshops on waste segregation, composting, and recycling
- Partner with local authorities to implement waste collection and processing systems
- Monitor and evaluate environmental impact of waste management initiatives
- Prepare technical reports and sustainability metrics for stakeholders
- Identify funding opportunities for waste innovation projects
Required Skills
- Proven experience in municipal waste management systems
- Knowledge of Nigerian environmental regulations and waste policies
- Strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills
- Proficiency in GIS mapping for waste site analysis
- Excellent communication in English and local languages (Hausa preferred)
- Ability to work in remote field conditions
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Public Health, or Urban Planning. Master’s Degree in Environmental Management or related field is an advantage.
Experience
Minimum 3 years’ experience in waste management projects, preferably in African urban contexts. Experience with UN-Habitat programs or similar international frameworks is highly desirable.
Salary
300,000 – 450,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience.

Working Environment
The role requires 60% fieldwork across Jos and surrounding areas, including visits to landfills, recycling centers, and community sites. Office work is conducted at WasteAid’s Jos regional hub, which features modern facilities with climate control and internet connectivity.
