Job Overview
The Community Relations Manager will lead the development and execution of comprehensive community engagement strategies that support Gold Fields’ operational objectives while enhancing the well‑being of local stakeholders. Reporting to the Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, the role involves building strong relationships with community leaders, NGOs, government agencies, and internal teams to ensure that mining activities are conducted responsibly and sustainably. The manager will act as the primary liaison for all community‑related matters, facilitating dialogue, addressing concerns, and promoting initiatives that generate social and economic benefits. This position is critical for maintaining Gold Fields’ social license to operate and for advancing the company’s reputation as a responsible corporate citizen in Nigeria.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a community engagement plan aligned with Gold Fields’ CSR strategy and local development priorities.
- Facilitate regular consultations with community representatives, traditional leaders, and civil society organizations.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of community projects, preparing detailed reports for senior management and external stakeholders.
- Coordinate grievance handling processes, ensuring timely resolution and transparent communication.
- Collaborate with the Environmental, Health & Safety, and Operations teams to integrate community considerations into project planning.
- Manage community development budgets, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
- Represent Gold Fields at public forums, industry conferences, and media engagements related to community affairs.
- Prepare and submit regulatory filings and compliance documentation as required by Nigerian mining authorities.
Required Skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with fluency in English and at least one local language spoken in Jos.
- Strong negotiation and conflict‑resolution abilities.
- Proven experience in designing and managing CSR or community development programs.
- Ability to analyze social impact data and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
- Knowledge of Nigerian mining regulations, community development frameworks, and stakeholder mapping techniques.
- Project management expertise, including budgeting and timeline control.
- High ethical standards and cultural sensitivity.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Community Development, Sociology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certification in Corporate Social Responsibility, Sustainable Development, or Project Management is highly desirable.
Experience
Applicants must have 5‑7 years of relevant experience, preferably within the mining or extractive industries, with a proven track record of successful community engagement and CSR program delivery.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from NGN 3,500,000 to NGN 5,500,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, and retirement benefits.
