Job Overview

The Data Center Operations Manager will lead the day‑to‑day management of Google’s Abuja data center, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security of all infrastructure components. This role is responsible for overseeing a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, and support staff, coordinating maintenance activities, capacity planning, and incident response. The manager will work closely with cross‑functional partners, including security, network, and product teams, to implement best practices, drive continuous improvement, and uphold Google’s high standards for uptime and energy efficiency. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of data center engineers, technicians, and support staff, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous learning.
• Ensure 99.99% uptime by overseeing monitoring systems, preventive maintenance, and rapid incident resolution.
• Develop and execute capacity planning strategies to accommodate growth in compute, storage, and network demand.
• Implement and enforce security protocols, physical access controls, and compliance with industry standards such as ISO 27001 and SOC 2.
• Manage relationships with vendors and service providers, negotiating contracts and overseeing service level agreements.
• Drive energy‑efficiency initiatives, including the adoption of renewable energy sources and advanced cooling technologies.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to align infrastructure capabilities with service requirements.
• Prepare and present operational performance reports to senior leadership, highlighting key metrics and improvement opportunities.

Required Skills

• Strong leadership and people‑management abilities with a track record of building high‑performing technical teams.
• Deep understanding of data center infrastructure, including power, cooling, networking, and server hardware.
• Proficiency in monitoring tools (e.g., Stackdriver, Prometheus) and incident management frameworks.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to make data‑driven decisions under pressure.
• Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory compliance for data centers.
• Effective communication skills for interfacing with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as Certified Data Center Professional (CDCP) or Project Management Professional (PMP) are highly desirable.

Experience

Applicants should have a minimum of 5‑8 years of experience in data center operations, facilities management, or a related field, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role. Experience working in large‑scale, high‑availability environments and familiarity with cloud infrastructure are advantageous.

Salary
