Job Overview
The Freight Forwarding Operations Manager will lead the day‑to‑day management of freight forwarding activities at DHL’s Lagos hub. This includes overseeing air, sea, and road freight operations, ensuring compliance with international trade regulations, optimizing routing and cost efficiencies, and driving service excellence for both corporate and SME clients. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate all freight forwarding operations, including air, ocean, and road shipments, ensuring on‑time delivery and cost control.
- Develop and implement operational SOPs, compliance frameworks, and performance metrics aligned with DHL’s global standards.
- Lead a team of supervisors, coordinators, and support staff, providing coaching, performance feedback, and career development.
- Collaborate with sales and customer service teams to design customized logistics solutions that meet client requirements and regulatory obligations.
- Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as transit time, on‑time delivery, and cost per shipment, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Oversee customs clearance processes, ensuring accurate documentation, tariff classification, and adherence to Nigerian customs regulations.
- Utilize DHL’s digital platforms and data analytics tools to optimize routing, capacity planning, and inventory management.
- Maintain strong relationships with carriers, agents, and local authorities to negotiate rates, resolve issues, and ensure service reliability.
- Ensure health, safety, and security standards are met across all operational activities, conducting regular audits and risk assessments.
- Prepare and present operational reports to senior management, highlighting achievements, challenges, and strategic recommendations.

Candidates must have 5‑7 years of progressive experience in freight forwarding or logistics operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity. Experience within a multinational logistics firm and exposure to the Nigerian market are highly valued.
Salary
